Uttarakhand to go ahead with NEET

The Uttarakhand government on Friday decided to go ahead with admissions for the medical/dental seats in state’s medical colleges for the year 2016-17 through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) only.
The decision was taken keeping in mind the larger interest of the students, said principal secretary (health) Om Prakash while announcing the decision here on Friday evening.
The Centre had brought in an ordinance earlier this week to let the state governments bypass NEET – the single-window entrance exam for admission to MBBS and BDS seats.
“Uttarakhand is a Hindi language-dominated state and the syllabus of NEET is in line with the medical entrance tests organised by us in past,” Prakash said.
Over 430 seats are likely to be filled through NEET in the state. Online counselling will begin after the CBSE releases the merit list for state-quota based on the NEET results, officials said.
Aspirants who had submitted the application fee in the account of the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University for Uttarakhand Pre-Medical Test 2016 will be fully refunded, said Prof Vijay Juyal, officiating registrar of the university.
