Goa Common Entrance Test on May 9 and 10 for professional degree courses
PANAJI: The Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) will be held on May 9 and 10, 2017 for the academic year 2017-18, the directorate of technical education (DTE) has announced. As per Supreme Court directives, admissions to MBBS and BDS seats for the academic year will take place through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
GCET, in 2017, will be held for admissions to professional degree courses in engineering, pharmacy, ayurveda, homeopathy, nursing and allied health sciences programmes.
The test will cover the subjects of physics, chemistry, maths and biology based on Class XII syllabus of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. Each papers will consist of 75 objective questions carrying one mark each with no negative marking. The examination for each subject will be of two-hour duration, as usual.
Goa has 1,230 engineering course seats on offer across five colleges, 120 pharmacy programme seats available at two institutes and 60 seats on offer in ayurveda. There are another 50 homeopathy seats available in the state.
Apart from these seats, 100 seats in nursing and 20 each in five allied health sciences like physiotherapy will be filled through GCET.
"Admissions to BArch course shall be on the basis of scores obtained at NATA (National Aptitude Test in Architecture), conducted by Council of Architecture, and qualifying exam (Class XII/HSSC). Information regarding the admission process, schedule, eligibility criteria, merit list preparation, and other relevant details shall be duly notified," the DTE notice reads.
With MBBS and BDS seat aspirants answering the NEET in 2017, the numbers of those answering GCET is set to come down. Goa Medical College has 150 seats on offer for MBBS. There are 40 Goa Dental College seats available for aspirants.
Over 5,000 students answered GCET in 2016.
